“Strengthening Youth Activism and Resilience as an ICT Based Society on Facing Contemporary Global Challenges”
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are at the core of people’s daily lives, especially from a young age. Young people have the access and ability to influence social, political and economic change in unprecedented ways. However, they also face complex new challenges, including climate change, inequality and geopolitical tensions. As agents of change, youth have great potential to use ICT to strengthen activities and build resilience to global challenges. Through these technologies, youth can connect, share ideas, and organize their movements more effectively, both locally and globally. As such, initiatives that support youth in developing ICT skills and utilizing them to champion positive change are essential. In an increasingly digitally connected era of globalization, youth have great potential to be a positive force capable of addressing the complex challenges facing the world today. Challenges such as climate change, inequality, conflict, and geopolitical tensions demand rapid and collaborative responses from all sectors of society. The theme “Strengthening Youth Activism and Resilience as an ICT-Based Society on Facing Contemporary Global Challenges” becomes even more relevant in this context. As agents of change, youth have extensive access to information and communication technologies, enabling them to connect, share ideas, and organize movements effectively at local, national, and international levels. However, while technology offers opportunities, youth face new risks and challenges, including disinformation, digital addiction, and online security weaknesses.
In addition, resilience is also a key aspect in dealing with today’s global challenges. Youth need to be equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and support to overcome the uncertainties and obstacles they may face as agents of change. By strengthening their resilience, youth can become more resilient in facing complex challenges such as climate change, conflict, and social injustice. To optimize the positive potential of youth in leveraging ICTs for sustainable social change, there needs to be more significant efforts to strengthen their skills in using technology, promote digital vigilance, and build resilience to emerging challenges. Therefore, an international conference on this theme would be a handy platform to exchange ideas, experiences, and best practices in strengthening the role of youth in facing today’s global challenges. In this context, the importance of supporting youth in utilizing technology and building resilience to global challenges becomes clear. By providing the proper access, training and support, we can strengthen the role of youth as positive change-makers and enhance their ability to survive in the face of a changing world. Seeing this phenomenon, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPN Veteran Jakarta) once again organized an international conference to discuss existing issues as well as capture ideas and thoughts from experts to produce new solutions to social humanities problems. The international conference was called The 4th Jakarta International Conference on Social Science and Humanities (JICoSSH).
